The Department of Historical Heritage of the Municipality of La Laguna and the Active Association have jointly launched an inclusive agenda with which to disseminate the architectural attractions of the municipality. With this notebook, adapted for the population with functional diversity and printed by people with intellectual disabilities, the area continues with the program of actions to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the city as a World Heritage Site.

The details of the initiative were presented this morning by the Councillor for Historical Heritage, Elvira Jorge, and the President of the Activoz Association, Almudena Díaz. “It is a very exciting project because it allows us to meet one of our main objectives: that all citizens have knowledge and access to our assets,” stressed the mayor.

This agenda includes photographs by Guillermo Pozuelo on the most emblematic buildings of La Laguna, as the Tower of the Conception, accompanied by pictograms and a descriptive introduction of the city, whose text has been developed so that those with cognitive problems or reading comprehension do not have difficulties in understanding.

This action is a pilot project, as the notebook will now be tested by various groups with functional diversity, which will help “so that we can all exercise equally our right to knowledge and enjoyment of our heritage and which will make the work carried out by the Activoz Association visible,” said Elvira Jorge.

As she explained, it is a totally “inclusive agenda because it can be used not only by citizens with intellectual or hearing disabilities or ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorders), but also by anyone who wants to make use of this well-made product. In this sense, he highlighted the work carried out by the users of Activoz’s printing and binding workshop for its production, “which also helps to make their abilities visible and to promote their self-esteem”.

For her part, Almudena Díaz detailed that the preparation of the notebook has been developed through the ImpresionaT training centre, which belongs to the organisation and is aimed at adults with disabilities with the aim of “facilitating their access to work and enabling the population to link the skills of this group to quality products”.

The president of the association has thanked the support of the Council in this initiative to “help develop the professional side of the participants and to sensitize and make society aware of the needs and tools that are needed to achieve full inclusiveness”.
