The tiflological model of the Town Halls brings the lagoon heritage closer to blind people
The presentation of the piece is part of the celebration of the International Day of Disability
The City Council of La Laguna has presented this Tuesday, coinciding with the celebration of the International Day of Disability, the model of the Town Hall, an activity framed within the events to mark the 20th anniversary of the declaration of La Laguna as a World Heritage City.
The presentation was attended by the Councillor for Historical Heritage, Elvira Jorge, and various councillors from the municipal corporation, as well as the Area Director of ONCE, Andrés Guillén, and the Vice-President of ONCE in the Canary Islands, Sandra Santana, as well as the author of the model, José María Cabrera.
This piece, which will be located in the courtyard of the Casa de los Capitanes, aims to “facilitate access to knowledge to people who have functional diversity with visual deficit, so they can know through touch the five buildings that make up the Town Hall,” said Elvira Jorge, who has made “an invitation to all people who have this functional diversity to know and perceive the heritage we have in La Laguna and enjoy it.
For his part, Andres Guillen wanted to recognize “an important initiative of the City of La Laguna, which fortunately is becoming a habit,” joining previous models of the church of La Concepcion and the old church of San Agustin, which are also in the House of Captains. “Being able to access the heritage through this formula gives us a perspective that we would not otherwise be able to perceive. Moreover, it is right to choose this day to present it, because it is a way of continuing to claim the right to equality that all people have,” concluded the area director of the ONCE.
