Culture La Laguna presents ‘May on the radio’, an initiative to recognize the traditions and folklore of the municipality
The Department of Culture of the City of La Laguna has launched the initiative May on the radio, a series of four exclusive podcasts to be broadcast on the official profiles of Youtube, Facebook and Twitter ‘Culture La Laguna’, which aims to enhance the traditions and folklore of the municipality. The programs will include the participation of soloists from the municipality’s folk groups and interviews with representatives of different traditional crafts.
The councillor for the area, Yaiza López Landi, assures that this initiative is “another example of the actions that the council is carrying out to continue betting and spreading both the talent of the municipality and the importance of preserving and making known the traditional trades. This is in line with our firm commitment to enhance our traditions and promote popular culture in the Canary Islands”.
Yaiza López Landi also stresses that this project wants to “recognise the effort and work that many people do to maintain our traditions and to make the new generations aware of the intricacies of their work through the testimony of their protagonists”.
Mayo on the radio consists of four one-hour programs in podcast format, recorded exclusively for the area and conducted by Pedro Díaz, director and presenter of the online radio program Tradition and Folklore, which has been broadcast for more than six years and has more than 200 recorded programs.
The programs will be broadcast on May 17, 24, 27 and 30 at 11:00 am on the area’s social network profiles on YouTube (Cultura de La Laguna), Facebook (@LaLagunacultura) and Twitter (Culturadelaguna).
In these profiles, Pedro Díaz will give prominence to all the folklore groups in the municipality, who will perform a repertoire loaded with isas, folías and malagueñas. In addition, recognized personalities from different traditional crafts such as handicrafts, pottery, traditional clothing, weaving, livestock and the art of luthier will be interviewed.
